Quick stop at The Javaroom

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

i HAD to stop in at The Javaroom this morning on my ride in … work has been unusually busy, and although i normally stop in to do some BXOS !nteractive! work on my midCommute into the office, this week has just been too hectic to curl in off of 495 South to take some time out to caffeinate my morning …

so, here’s the deal … i mean besides catching up w/ Dawn about Christmas and all, oh and our brand new little grandson Gabriel { hoo hoo! } … i wanted to find out about Candy and Jack Liu and family and if they were ok … they were travelling out to Taiwan this Holiday Season for a week or 2 and i heard about the earthquakes and was hoping to hear that they were safe + sound … and thank goodness, Dawn confirmed that they’ve been in touch every day via the phone and that the Liu family survived just fine and are enjoying their tour of the island … so, cool news …

a little { large actually } caramel latte to go sans sconage … and off onto 495 into the morning …

Bohemian Coffeehouse

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

well, it’s been a week since i stopped in for my first time since the opening … but i thought i’d give props to the Bohemian Coffeehouse in Melrose, Massachusetts …my friends Hillary and Chris Poravas { and family } opened up the cozy little cafe on West Emerson in Melrose on the Monday right before Thanksgiving … i stopped in last Saturday to just hang, chat a bit, get a coffee and a little sumfin’ sumfin’ ;] … so, from what i can tell, just the blueberry muffins alone have been a real crowd-pleaser for the community … it’s been a soft launch thusfar, no hard PR or advertising about the Bohemian … they claim their just getting acquainted w/ the oven and all the machinery that makes the coffee go, ya know? … but i dunno, seems like they got their act together to me …

i got myself a delicious coconut latte of the large configuration { no foreign language expertise necessary to order at the Bohemian ;] } and a little blueberry muffin action … i got there a bit early, so Chris was not yet down helpin’ out or anything … but it seemed like they had quite the little flow goin’ … i wonder how the rest of the day went as it was officially ‘Home for the Holidays’ in Melrose, a little holiday, town-wide event to celebrate Melrose and it’s thriving small-business community … i bet they did a fantastic job keepin’ up w/ the crowds, zipping around Melrose in little trolleys, checking out little events being held all about the community …

i have to say, the coconut latte was simply scrumptious … a truly tasty concoction … i tend to stay cinnamon or raspberry, but coconut … mmmMmmMmm … if i can take the liberty of quoting the ever-expanding Rachel Ray ;] … delish! … { i actually don’t know if she says anything of the like, sort or type, but i am guesstimating as best possible } … and, uhm, i have to mention the latte was prepared by the lovely Sydney { her college fund tip-jar adorns the cafe bartop, Salem State, theatrix if you must know } … fantastic …

just to note … i was there for an hour and a half or so … from my quickhit visit there i could tell they are going to be a smashing success … it’s obvious they are there to make the customer happy … very pleasant, personable service that is natural and ungoverned by widespread corporate procedure of any sort … it seemed to me that almost everyone who stopped in was already on friendly terms w/ staff … and it was apparent that any newcomers were superWelcome and on the path to becoming newfound friends, in out of the cold for a hot cup of coffee and some conversation …

congrats guys! superCool! have a cappuccino on me ;] … aight?

Javaroom pre-work stop off …

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

well, the new morning stop of the day prior to work is The Javaroom in Chelsmford Center … well, right around the very heart + soul of Chelmsford i guess … they got the free wi-fi, a less busy morning than say … Starbucks on Mall Road in Burlington … but … the commute has changed w/ the transition to the new workplace and so has my route to the daily grind ;] …

so, let’s give this a little context + history too my friends … i used to frequent The Javaroom way back in 2004 when i was an adjunct at The University of Massachusetts at Lowell … it was an interesting year there as a teacher and a great year to reach out and find new coffee and a home for one of my favourite failed events … that’s right! … The Sound of Dolphins … poetry in the round as inspired and guided by Marcel Kopp way back in 1993 or so … ah, the memories …

but, back to 2004 … so, i tried to re-instill, re-install The Sound of Dolphins and actually incorporated pre-recorded audio, but, alas, it didn’t quite work then … this was the year i got to teach Aesthetics and Critical Studies of New Media, one of my favourite life experiences as i was semi-new to the subject and completely new to the vocation of teaching itself … an institute, no? the institute of learnin’ people … but, i think i was able to convey a certain energy about the topic and since i have always gravitated toward interdisciplinary approaches to expression, New Media was a natural cyberSpheric knowSpace to explore and discuss on a nearDaily basis with a great team of students … the course is documented online at newsummedia … good times, good times indeed …

so now it’s back to this gorgeous space, the friendly atmosphere of The Javaroom, amazing music playing in the morning … i sit over by the big, black grand piano { once you go grand ;] } and hook up my newlyPurchased MacBook Pro { the 17 incher … ouch! }, hook it up to the MyBook i’ve had since the drop + destruction of my previous portable harddrive … and just plug and play and try to keep on top of things as much as possible …

this morning, that’s right, uh huh, i got me the large caramel latte { not on the old diet :[ } to accompany me on my email catch up and clientSide create + upload session … it’s all quite funkyCozyCool … a little BXOS in the morning { and a little at nite too } … ah, and soon, so soon … i will have to get in said car and drive off + along to greener pastures … or hopefully greener that is, that is …

let me finish my latte … aight? …
