The Salem Poetry Happening

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

starting this September at Cornerstone Books in Salem, Massachusetts … i will be running an event called The Salem Poetry Happening … mostly poetry, music and spokenword – but also incorporating pre-recorded video and audio and whatever other art contribution comes about through happy random contributor | participants to the evening …

this first installation of The Happening on September 15 will feature Clyve & the management … bringing their songStylings to help promote the theme ‘worksongs + words | back to work, back to school … and the daily grind’ … in fact, the plan is … every month will have it’s own theme to help inspire potential participants and also hopefully create a bit of cohesion in the modernday distracted world ;]

this will be Clyve’s first appearance in a while … an proposed extension to their little-known ‘Superstore America Tour’ … and this will be the first installment of The Happening … what’s supercool is that Cornerstone Books provides a very cozy and unique spot for The Happening … an independent bookstore in the very heart of Salem … plenty to pick up to read or listen to … a little fireplace area { we’ll be set up over in that corner } … and, of course, incredibly important to myself and those afflicted w/ any caffeine-induced addictions … a full-out coffeeShop capable of putting together the latte of your dreams ;] …

i hope you can check it out … more details are up online at http://www.bijaxous.com/happening/ … you can sign up for an email newsletter mailing list within this little microsite … & there will also be more info posted on Cornerstone’s site as well … enjoy

a little excerpt from ‘chocolate Cake Happy’

Marco had written this poem way back when, when we were living in ‘the apartment’ … i think everyone has a time in their life when they live w/ 3 or 4 other people in a place they affectionately call ‘the apartment’ … right? … but anyway …

so, he wrote this poem … & part of the poem, this excerpt, comes up alot in my own thoughts recently … it’s all about the subtle balance you & i try to establish when order food & drink … in this case, when purchasing a coffee … the eternal question[s] up for bid : do you sacrifice taste to conserve calories? can i afford to always get the best-tasting or nutritionally-aligned hot beverage on a daily basis?

anyhow … here is the poem excerpt from ‘chocolate Cake Happy’ …

…………………………………………………………………………….

I can never decide between cream or milk in my coffee. Coffee with cream definitely tastes better, but coffee with milk doesn’t fill you up as much … I opt for cream.

…………………………………………………………………………….

& everyday recently … i know i could potentially save a buck or 2 per drink order if i choose to go w/ just a nice large cup of coffee … but, i am prone to use that ‘Sugar in the Raw’ w/ half ‘n’ half’ … i mean, i am seeking alternative sweetening methods recently, but nothing that satisfies me as much … & then, i typically prefer a latte w/ flavourShot … which typically costs twice as much as a regular coffee … but is just so much smoother and better tasting … in the end, if this is such a difficult, perplexing circumstance in life, i guess i’m doin’ ok … right?

2 sBs iN 1 morning? ::: >>>

yes, it’s true … i was at the Starbucks this morning on Mall Road in Burlington … chatting it up w/ Murray & his little entourage for a bit, lightly working to warm up to the day, but for the most part taking in the conversation ::: eventually i had to leave & hit the other Starbucks just for my own sanity sake { hate to say it guys ;] … or to not say it until it’s up online ‘n’ all, ya know? }

the drink of the day for me, & i guess i stay pretty much up there in the nonFat latte category … you know? … w/ flavour shot … but my drink today { and most days } is a venti nonFat cinnamon latte, nothing too individualized really … kind of right off the menu there … but still, very smooth & good today w/ all these unusual { well, this year they seem more usual than uN } torrential downpours this morning …

so … i don’t know … i needed to get a little bit more done before going into the dayGig this morning … that & … well, quite frankly, the conversation turns a bit too smutty for me, ya know? i mean, i can understand people watching, admiration, observation & such … i think it’s all part of human nature to look & comment, to watch the movement & behaviour of people out there in the world … but some of the commentary turns a bit turgid … & today there were a couple of boisterous outbursts … perhaps a littel uncalled for to some degree … perhaps not … but, i don’t know, just out of respect for the general public, just as a courtesy, a gesture of humanity, it would’ve been nice if the commentary + outburst were just sort of silently passed among the little coffeeClique in the corner … or, maybe better, if the comment were just kept unsaid … you know? … sometimes, it’s good to edit a bit of what is actually broadcast to the world in superSonic stereo & alL … i dunno … maybe i’m a little older than i thought … perhaps i’m a ratfink or something, not as young & fresh as some … not as controversial at the core … but, no, i don’t think that’s the case at all really … i guess i believe there’s a time there’s a place … otherwise … just shut the fnck up ;]

adventures @ Starbucks :::…

aight … little bit of an issue here …

i love working w/ my laptop from the Starbucks, especially in the morning, for many, many reasons … just something about the jazz { reggae or whatever sonic wallpaper is chiming in through the system here, ya know? }, the people coming in & out to get their daily legal fix, that caffeinated feeling as you sit here typing & whatnot … the feeling that you are some sort of cyber madman of sorts just gettin’ your stuff done, but somehow being watched occasionally by the random coffeedrinker as they pass on by { yes, there is a bit of an exhibitionism … or … no, no … it’s not exhibitionism, is it? what would that be called? i dunno … } …

one major downfalL however … as you sit & get your stuff done, sometimes the morning hit of a latte might inspire the old bowel to kick in … & with the rumors goin’ round about laptop theft & all … i don’t dare get outta my chair … not until i’m ready to pack it up for the office …

nearly needless to say … i am in a bit of pain right now as i wait for some files to up load … this sort of scenario does add to the cyber madman mentality … that sort of inspirational discomfort … accompanied by the dry mouth, the crazy vibraphone solos that only Roy Ayers would understand, the beeping of the fresh drip and, of course, the hissing steam of the milk frother …
