months + months + months have gone by … completely coffeeless … sans coffee, you know? + so tonight … at the class break midway through our evening discussion of Giu Bonsiepe’s ‘Some Virtues of Design’ … Dennis and Kent run off to grab the class some Starbucks Coffee-on-the-Go with a random variety of pastry snacks … as much as Jan expressed the expansion of discourse following Dennis’ mini-essay on ‘Interest in Theory,’ i still tend to think the coffee might have had something to do w/ the sudden flourish of interesting conversational back + forth …
the entire ride home my mind is racing, thinking about design, dynamic media, the relationship of one artform to the other … i keep the radio off … i realize more than ever tonight just how much i miss coffee … i miss going to The Javaroom and seeing Candy, Dawn and Jess … on occasion I used to bump into Jack if I stopped in early enough on my commute into work … a more innocent time perhaps … coffee seemed to open my mind, let my blood flow a bit more freely … a slight imbalance in coffee chemistry can inspire + help manage the day-to-day … a bit of a hot liquid of survival
equally inspiring to design, poetry, thought + flow … the cafe, the coffeehouse, the tearoom … spaces devoted to the consumption of coffee … sitting for an hour or 2 while writing, surfing, sitting + talking … i certainly miss this … not just the architectural space, filled with the aroma of of the bean, the sound of the grinding + steaming … machines + people + cups + conversation, discussion over a large latte + a cinnamon chip scone … i miss the space that surrounds the time spent enjoying coffee … a bit of downtime … time to breathe + enjoy
and now … its off to bed … good night
