just a quick Coffee Thirsty | Refill entry here … no focus, no rhyme, no reason … just thoughts …

so … i did hear through a good friend of mine that there is an expedition to visit every Starbucks, at least in the United States … Starbucks Everywhere documents the travels of Winter as he travels from city to city ’starbucking’ it up like a caffeine-driven fiend for the hot beverage + a snack …

it used to be a long-running joke in New England that you could take a daytrip or weekend excursion or any vast + expansive roadtrip by going from Dunkin’ Donuts to Dunkin’ Donuts until arrival at your final destination … and now i guess you could say the same thing about Starbucks … you can pick and choose, swap from one to the other along the journey, pleasing each will traveler in your travel entourage along the way … starbucking + dunkin’ it up … its your choice … your decision … your affliction … go ahead, enjoy …

while you’re at it … if starbucking you can choose to have your experience warmed now … from cafe to sandwich shoppe … i personally have done much less starbucking due to the warmed over changes that arrived with Starbucks’ Warm Breakfast Items … the soundshift from milk steaming to convection oven whirrings + exhalation … the aroma is now alot less freshground coffee, more of a mayonnaisey eaux de bagette { on an english muffin } … the only thing that hasn’t changed really is the wait … there is a bit more of a bustle, perhaps a bit of confusion regarding where the warm crowd should stand to wait, at times even a strange offer or 2 to warm up a cookie or a scone … but it seems like the bean gets less importance in the overall scheme of starbucking … and starbucks gets less importance in the overall scheme of my caffeinated life …

where’s Dawn?

Friday, January 5th, 2007

aight … so, i am at The Javaroom, some subtle hip hop playing, Candy Liu back from Taiwan { + Jack Liu is in as well, finishing up a presentation for the office … over on one of the hightop tables by the window } … and like, i dunno … where’s Dawn? how about Jess? i mean, they deserve a day off here ‘n’ there for sure … but it’s definitely not the same w/o them … ya know?

but anyhow … Maple Caramel Latte today { treatin’ myself nice since it’s finally Friday ‘n’ all } … unusually warm for this time of year in New England … i think it’s gonna be in the 60s …

the beginning of the end … ;]

so … today starts the beginning of the end here at my current job in Burlington … moving on to brighter spots … more on the web | marcom side of things … i am filled w/ optimism & a general weight of the sort of idiocy i have had to deal w/ here, at my current gig …

don’t get me wrong … i love the company i work for + believe they have fantastic, world-class product-services to offer the world … and even my division, the SMB side a things, great group + a fantastic online service indeed … i veryMuch believe in it + in the vision of the company going forward … very web 2.0 … very sharp …

luckily, before hitting this post here, i got a bit of the Starbucks brew from the Dev side of the office, if you know what i mean ;] … makes it ‘all good’ in so many ways + will help put me in the frantic state i need to get more of the project work i am on here done before my departure, but also revitalize me as i pack up the contents of my cube and the gallery space i have established nextdoor { in Kristin Seastrand’s abandoned cube … her departure should have been at least a slight indication regarding the unnamed department i work for } … the gallery contains what i have coined as ‘corporate art’ … small, makeshift + temporary installation pieces that either bring a slight sense of poetry to the space or manage to make a subtle comment regarding whiteCollar life + survival …

the coffee is good … real good … mmmmMMmMMmmmmm …

so, as i see it, the inspiration for leaving this remarkable, modern company w/ fantastic vision for where the world will be at in the veryNear future … the inspiration is … well, let’s just call it ‘even better opportunity to contribute everything that i have to offer with another unnamed organization that is just as established + just as forward thinking’ … my addition to the company will hopefully make it even more progressive, and more forward in thought …

thought is where it’s at right now … which is good news for me … i think … :|

the origins of ‘Coffee Thirsty’ … the phrase …

ok, Marco … correct me if i’m wrong … but as i recall …

back in the 90s Marco & i decided to go to Sweden via Icelandic Air … IA was having some specials, trying to make their entire international airflight experience more passenger friendly … really trying to gain some sense of worldly respect in the community … and so, hence, the rather inexpensive airfairs …

pre-911 of course this was …

we charged the tickets … of course, at that time, i charge just about everything … groceries, gas, books, CDs { maybe even records at this point }, magazines, art supplies, junkfood, movie rentals { videocassette, well before the miraculous invention of the DVD, TiVO & the like } … and so on … so, uhm … we charged the tickets … we had already taken courses in Swedish … volumes I & II … & so, now it was about time to go overseas & see if it was all that we learned about in class { & on the web } …

so, ok … we take the flight … for some reason this trip seemed to involve many people with disabilities … people w/ limps, on crutches, blind, limbless, etcetera … but this is beside the point right now … let me get to it … we’ll hop back a bit after talking about the true origins of ‘coffee thirsty’ … aight? …

we’re at the hostel { details to come, how we got there, the visually symbollic handicapped man hobbling along the side of the road at 5 or 6am, and so on … } … ok, we go to the breakfast … and they have this machine that makes the coffee for you … sort of like one of these Keurig thangs you see so often in the modern officeplace now … but, like, at least a decade before their ubiquity here in the states …

Marco sets himself up to make a nice cup of morning coffee, ya know? i think he gets it to work but it doesn’t quite fill the cup up { definitely correct me if i’m wrong … aight? } … so he sets it up to get it to make another little brew session to fill up the cup and low & behold, coffee fills the cup, keeps pouring & pouring until the coffee overfills, overflows & gets all over the buffet countertop … the hostel kitchen lady seemed to come out of nowhere, fresh kitchen handcloth ready to go, and turns to Marco and asks him in her best Icelandic-sounding English, ‘Coffee thirsty?’ w/ a semi-coy wink …

… and now, more than a decade later { the man w/ delay } … we have an official coffee blog dedicated to the need for speed, to the happy feeling you get when sharing a hot beverage in public w/ friends or strangers, to this accomodating kitchen help … here to make our coffee experience the best it could possibly be … if not, then perhaps the bestest … ;]
