Open Mike Special Event 10/17 honors Catherine Hsu, Tom Sheehan, Kirsten & Dave

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Quick notice for an event that typically features coffee … please join us if you can …
October’s OutLoud at the Beebe Coffee House and Open Mike for poetry, prose, and music will honor three OutLoud community members who have contributed creatively in the past year.

Catherine Hsu recently published her beautiful book of poetry, Shadows and Light.

Tom F. Sheehan received his ninth Puschart nomination for his story, The Man Who Hid Music; both of the poets will read their favorable chosen pieces.

For Kirsten and Dave, October is the one year anniversary of their CD, Dreams that Just Won’t Let Go.

While these artists’ works are distinct, common threads include the struggle to remain hopeful, to find balance, and to stir the spark within. The feature is shared among a collection of OutLoud writers and musicians whose works reflect these themes.

Starbucks, a long time supporter of OutLoud (providing coffee and tea), has been invited to feature its Open Mike along with OutLoud’s. The event begins early this month, at 6:30 p.m., with Open Mike sign-up during the first 10 minutes. It runs until 9:30 p.m. There is no cover; proceeds from donations will go to charity, e.g., the Melrose Mayor’s Fund for people in need, and Melrose Alliance Against Violence (MAAV). The Beebe Estate graciously offers its art exhibit space, 235 West Foster, Melrose (www.BeebeEstate.org) for this event. Parking available on grounds. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Melrose Cultural Council, a local agency that is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a State agency.

Kate Bush

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

almost 9 now and i have to leave The Javaroom soon to zip off to work … i’m not sure, but it seems like there’s a bit of Kate Bush in the mix this morning … finishing up a large Caramel Latte this morning … got a poem transcribed, one that i had written back in October of 2006 at The Outloud Open Mic … i will be attending The Outloud tomorrow evening … a little installation of ‘avant garde performance’ as my appearances there have been coined { a huge compliment … i know that Deb + i have at times baffled the group by switching from an unpolished comedic acoustic rock style to serious delivery of accompanied poetics, this time around it will be more of the outlandish delivery of spokenword, stream of consciousness … i think, unfortunately, this time around i will not be joined by Deb … Group of 9 will return … but until then i must deliver for this month + come out of my wintertime haitus }

tomorrow nite The Outloud typically has Starbucks donated snackage + coffeeness … i am hoping to sometime soon see The Bohemian Coffeehouse as official sponsor of The Outloud events … we’ll see … we’ll see …

The Salem Poetry Happening

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

starting this September at Cornerstone Books in Salem, Massachusetts … i will be running an event called The Salem Poetry Happening … mostly poetry, music and spokenword – but also incorporating pre-recorded video and audio and whatever other art contribution comes about through happy random contributor | participants to the evening …

this first installation of The Happening on September 15 will feature Clyve & the management … bringing their songStylings to help promote the theme ‘worksongs + words | back to work, back to school … and the daily grind’ … in fact, the plan is … every month will have it’s own theme to help inspire potential participants and also hopefully create a bit of cohesion in the modernday distracted world ;]

this will be Clyve’s first appearance in a while … an proposed extension to their little-known ‘Superstore America Tour’ … and this will be the first installment of The Happening … what’s supercool is that Cornerstone Books provides a very cozy and unique spot for The Happening … an independent bookstore in the very heart of Salem … plenty to pick up to read or listen to … a little fireplace area { we’ll be set up over in that corner } … and, of course, incredibly important to myself and those afflicted w/ any caffeine-induced addictions … a full-out coffeeShop capable of putting together the latte of your dreams ;] …

i hope you can check it out … more details are up online at http://www.bijaxous.com/happening/ … you can sign up for an email newsletter mailing list within this little microsite … & there will also be more info posted on Cornerstone’s site as well … enjoy
